First Appointment Information

Explore the possibilities of a pain-free and active lifestyle through our advanced joint injection treatments options. Whether you’re dealing with arthritis, joint swelling, sports injuries, or other joint-related conditions, our state-of-the-art image-guided therapies are designed to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.

Here is a guide to what to expect before, during, and after your appointment:

Step 1.

Your health care provider makes are referral to our clinic after deciding with you that you prefer non-surgical management of your joint or soft-tissue problem.

Step 2.

We will review the referral and contact you for an appointment time.  Sometimes an X-ray is required prior to your consultation, and we’ll arrange that for you with your permission at the time of this phone call.  Sometimes, we will suggest to your provider of an alternative course of action at this time.

Step 3.

We will send you an online form for you to describe your problem and past history ahead of time.

Step 4.

OHIP does not cover the cost of any medications or certain injections.  Ultrasound guided injections are only covered in certain situations by OHIP.  Please make note of any private insurance coverage you may have prior to your appointment and bring the names of the company (or your insurance card) to the appointment.

Step 5.

On the day of the appointment, please wear comfortable loose clothing that allows easy access to the affected area, including above and below that area.  You can bring clothes to change here if required.  It is sometimes helpful to bring your usual brace, orthotics, and shoes (if applicable).  You will check in with our front desk and present your health card.

Step 6.

During your appointment, the doctor will ask you questions and perform a physical examination.  He may use an ultrasound to help plan the injection. During the appointment, we will discuss various treatment options and their associated costs with you.  OHIP-covered options are always discussed.

Our usual practice is to set a second appointment for the injection after you have had a chance to consider the treatment options and check your insurance coverage.

Step 7.

If you receive an injection at the second appointment, you will be sent home with written after-care instructions.  Expect to be asked to rest the area for 7 days after the injection.  If you have any concerns or questions after your injection, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Step 8.

Returning patients wishing a repeat injection of the same type and location, may book directly for another injection appointment without going through the consultation process.  If you have a new injury, a new location of pain, or wish a different product, then it is best to go over this in a dedicated appointment for your new concern.
